Mix Tape Leadership (MTL) is the belief that school leadership and strategic planning is an art form, much like creating the perfect mix tape. My philosophy is rooted in embracing purposeful placement of time and resources, a celebration of culture and diversity of voice and experience.

About Me and my philoshophy

I am a passionate educator with two decades of experience, including almost 15 years of successful leadership at both the district and school levels. My journey has included roles as a classroom teacher, an instructional coach, a school principal, and a forward-thinking district leader. My unique perspective is rooted in my commitment to fostering creativity and collaboration, all while prioritizing equity and an action-oriented mindset.

Purposeful Placement

Creating a mix tape involves arranging songs in a specific order to evoke a certain mood or tell a story. In school leadership, this translates to strategic planning and resource allocation. Leaders should carefully plan how and when to allocate time and resources to achieve their goals.

Celebration of Culture

Just as a mix tape can reflect the cultural influences and preferences of its creator, MTL encourages leaders to celebrate the unique culture and values of the people in their school community. Embracing the culture of the staff, students and families will build cohesion and a sense of identity.

A thoughtfully crafted mix tape seamlessly blends slow ballads with upbeat tracks, being inclusive of a variety of genres and artists. MTL places high value on diversity in leadership, urging school leaders to welcome distinct perspectives, backgrounds, and ideas within their teams. This inclusivity fosters a more comprehensive and nuanced approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
